Rebecca McNaughton, PhD

Dr. McNaughton is the Assistant Director of the Office of Research Development (ORD) where she supports faculty teams in preparation of large interdisciplinary research proposals, promotes development of interdisciplinary research collaborations, and manages dissemination of federal funding opportunities to faculty.

Before joining ORD, Dr. McNaughton worked as a Research Associate and Administrator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and also as Director of Research and Development for Infinitesimal LLC, a start-up company. In the latter role, Dr. McNaughton led the preparation of several federal SBIR/STTR small business grant proposals and conducted market research and business development. Prior to this, Dr. McNaughton served as the Industrial Liaison and Scientific Officer in the International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern. She began her work at Northwestern as an NIH NRSA postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemistry studying bioinorganic chemistry and spectroscopy.  She has co-authored over 20 scientific publications, received two fellowships, and presented her work at professional conferences for research outcomes as well as grant administration.

Dr. McNaughton is an active participant in the Northwestern University research administration community, serving on the steering committee for NURAP (Northwestern University Research Administration Professionals) and providing guidance to research administrators on multi-institution, center-level grant proposals.
